People can acquire the habit of compulsively grinding their teeth (bruxism) or they can get long-standing tensions that affect muscles all over the upper torso. Frenectomy

Underneath the tongue there is a small section of skin which keeps it anchored to the floor of the mouth. In some people, this can cause issues if it does not allow for free movement of the tongue. It can affect someone’s ability to speak, for example. In these situations, they may consider the idea of a frenectomy, which is where this piece of skin is cut to give the tongue a few more millimetres in length.
