Check-ups with us at Northern Beaches Dental in Mackay can
also save you a lot of discomfort and hassle.

The reason we like to see nearly all our patients every 6 months is
that any new signs of decay and gum disease will still be in their early stages
and much easier to treat. Leave them for much longer
and treatments to get rid of them will be more invasive and more expensive.

Decay

So, what does happen when teeth with decay
are not treated early on?

We can usually treat early signs of decay
with a small filling, taking away only a tiny amount of tooth material, and so
your tooth is as strong as before. But, as the decay spreads, we have to remove
more tooth material, and the more we have to take out, the weaker the tooth can
become, even with great new modern filling materials.

Big cavities may need to have inlays or
onlays. We may even have to cover the tooth with a crown.

And, sometimes, if we do not catch the
decay in time, infection can set in. It can get right down into the root, and
will need root canal therapy to fix it. Ignore even that, and you are looking
at losing your tooth.

Gum disease

Caused by acid from the bacteria in plaque,
gum disease inflames and irritates the gums. It’s easy to treat at this stage
with better oral hygiene.

Ignored, it gets under the gums and
corrodes the tooth root and jawbone, loosening teeth, which can fall out. Treating
this is much more involved and requires several appointments.

So, come on in for a check-up with the dentist in Mackay. It’s cheaper in the long run.

Disclaimer

All treatment carries risks. Individual
consultation is required with one of our practitioners to ensure that the
treatment is right for you.

If you are finding it hard to make ends meet, it can be tempting to save money by avoiding outgoings that do not seem to show an immediate reward, like your regular check-ups with the dentist in Mackay.
