In short, a dental abscess is a collection of pus and bacteria which forms either under the gumline, in the jawbone or in the tooth itself.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

If you have an abscess, you will need urgent treatment from our dentist in Mackay<\/strong>; abscesses are considered a medical emergency. If you delay treatment, this can lead to widespread sepsis which is life-threatening in the worst instance.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Signs to look out for<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

You must attend follow-up appointments that are based on abscesses, as delaying treatment can cause them to come back and cause more damage.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Aftercare<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Once you have had either a root canal performed or had the required extraction, it is important to keep an eye out for signs of infection. Infections are more common with extractions.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Much like the abscess itself, this may include discomfort at the extraction site, swelling, discolouration and of course, feeling unwell.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
