Why come every 6 months for a check-up?

Most dental problems creep up on you. Decay and gum disease are the most common problems and they both start off small and insignificant. You won’t even be able to feel there is anything wrong.

But when you come for regular check-ups with us, we can spot problems developing, and in their very early stages, which is way before you will be able to feel anything. By the time you do, the problem is often already fairly advanced and treatment will cost more.

What happens during a check-up

A check-up is our chance as your dentist in Mackay to have a good look round inside your mouth. We check each of your teeth individually, looking for decay and gum disease, as well as wear and tear and erosion. We will also check any fillings, crowns, veneers, bridges and dental implants to make sure they are also still in good working order. Crowns, bridges, fillings and veneers all wear out eventually and need replacing.

We may also need to take digital x-rays so that we can see what is going on inside your teeth, under your fillings and also inside your jawbone.

If we find something wrong

If we do find the beginnings of a problem, we will tell you about it straight away. We can then draw up a written treatment plan, or, if it is a simple fix, such as a small filling, we may be able to do it straight away, with your consent.

If we find a bigger problem that will need more work, we can discuss options with you and you can take your time to decide what to do. This is especially important if we find you need teeth replacing.
